How to make Debt Repayment Fun

A post from Oliver Emberton presents an interesting perspective of how and what life is. Life is hard, filled with struggle, but it is also has fun bits and that’s what we thrive on. Most people ignore the issue of their growing debt. It is boring, annoying to look at and it never goes away.

What you need to do is make it fun. It is not going away and it will only grow to be burdensome so try to make paying off debt challenging and fun. Adding a fun element is the perfect way to keep yourself motivated to deal with it.

Set Goals for You

Apart from being debt free, what do you want to achieve? What would you do if you didn’t have debt?

These are goals which will sustain your journey of paying the debt off. Perhaps it is that electronic gadget you always wanted to buy or that foreign trip that you wanted to go for, or even save money for a downpayment on a house.

“There is a light at the end of the tunnel” – let these goals be your motivating light to get out of debt.

Make a Budget with Partner or Friend

Making a budget on your own can be quite boring, do it with a partner or friend. Budgeting is a good habit so get your friend to do it too. Together, both of you can learn how to create a good budget, set targets and modify it during the month.

You can compare budgets with your friend and find out who is better at managing it and meeting targets.

Never be Satisfied, Always Negotiate

Never be satisfied with the price someone is selling to you. Whether it is interest rates, house rent price, cable connect, service charge or anything else, always bargain for a lower price.

Art of Couponing

Once you get the hang of using coupons, your wallet will be thicker. Sites likeGroupon and Coupon Mom are fantastic places to find coupons. You can get coupons for beauty parlours, hair salons, restaurants, etc. They will significantly reduce your cost of living.

Get an Interesting Side Job or Advance your Skills

Chances are that you have a conventional and boring job that requires you to spend 6 hours a day at office.  In your free time, push yourself to get a job doing something that interests you. This way you will get some side money and have an opportunity to develop those interests. It can be anything from teaching to even a mowing a lawn.

Interesting jobs always deliver on some level of personal satisfaction and that is well worth anything you are getting paid… still you should insist on getting paid for your work!

At work, you can study to advance your career which will increase your income and benefits provided the employer. This win-win situation will being more rewards.

Make Those Monthly Payments

Budgeting, using coupons, working a side job are all so that you have money to make your debt payments. So you need to make them. Putting in those monthly payments timely is the best way to stay on track to paying the debt off.

Treat yourself

At the end of it all, you deserve to treat yourself. After you make those monthly payments, buy something for yourself or enjoy a treat in your favourite restaurant.

Your goals should keep motivating you to become debt free. Take it up as a challenge!
